Fitness Tip | WORKOUT DVD's
Whether you’re exercising in a gym or following a workout DVD at home, it’s vital that you use correct form to efficiently tone and strengthen your muscles and to burn off the maximum number of calories possible.
But if you're following instructions from a workout DVD, there's no way to ask the instructor if the exercise is being done correctly. So how do you tell? Simple - look for these three signs:-
- You should experience the "burn" within the muscle group you're targeting. For example, if you're doing a lunge, you should feel it in your thighs and glutes, not your waist.
- Your movements should be fluid, not stiff. Ensure that you use a full range of motion - the move should never be stilted or shortened.
- There shouldn't be any pain. The routine may make your muscles slightly sore, but it shouldn't cause you to wince in pain.
Furthermore, if you've been following a particular workout DVD for a while and don't experience any of these signs, it's time to change your routine. Always watch the instructor closely as the move is performed and, if necessary, stop and rewind until you get it right.
