Fitness Tip | WEAR APPROPRIATE TRAINERS
One size may fit all if you're going to the shopping centre, but if you plan to exercise, you need to purchase appropriate shoe wear. For example, running shoes provide support and cushioning around impact areas, whereas cross trainers are made to grip the surface to prevent slips and falls.
Aim to wear different shoes for each exercise you engage in—it will keep your feet safe from injury.
General shoe-buying tips also include:-
- Ensure the shoe fits the unique contours of your foot. People with high arches won't feel the same amount of comfort in a shoe made for flat-footed people.
- Make sure it's flexible. The shoe should flex easily as you walk around and shouldn't wiggle or fall off the heel of the foot either, which would indicate too loose a fit.
- Don't try on shoes without socks. The shoe's fit and comfort level may change depending on which socks you wear, so make sure they are appropriate for the intended activity you plan for the shoes.
Remember, wearing the appropriate shoes won't just increase your level of comfort. Finding the right shoes can help with athletic/sporting performance, whilst providing added protection from fractures, sprains and other injuries.
