Fitness Tip | THE POWER OF WATER
Even during the winter months, staying well hydrated is vital for getting the most out of your exercise regime.
Without proper hydration, energy levels are lowered, fat metabolism is hindered, the heart needs to work harder and the body doesn’t regulate its’ temperature as efficiently – all of which may result in dizziness, a rapid heart rate, loss of concentration and a below par workout performance.
Therefore, aim to hydrate before, during, and after exercise to maximise the benefits of your training efforts. To stay hydrated, simply follow these tips:-
- Drink one or two glasses of water approximately an hour before exercise.
- Have a water bottle with you, and sip regularly during your workout. One full glass - or 240ml - per 15 minutes of exercise is a good rule of thumb.
- After your fitness session, drink one or two full glasses of water to replenish any fluids lost whilst exercising.
And remember, if weight loss is one of your primary reasons for exercising, choose water (which contains no calories) as opposed to sports drinks – which contain plenty!
