Fitness Tip | THE CONVENIENCE OF EXERCISE BIKES
If you’re not working out because you can't miss your favourite soap or TV program, consider adding an exercise bike to your home. A great piece of fitness equipment for beginners, exercise bikes are easy on your joints and simple to use, making it ideal for inexperienced exercisers or the elderly.
Setting it up in front of the TV also has another added bonus - entertainment while you ride.
To get the most from your exercise bike, start gradually and then periodically increase the intensity until your heart is pumping and you can feel your legs being worked. To maximise your calorie expenditure, maintain a neutral spine by sitting up straight and relaxing your shoulders.
When you feel you’ve exercised hard enough and for long enough, cool down by slowly decrease your speed to avoid blood pooling in your legs and to minimise D.O.M.S (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness).
And don’t forget to wear tight-fitting trousers that won't fly around when you pedal, and therefore minimising the injury risk.
