Fitness Tip | TAKE THE LONG ROUTE
Staying physically fit doesn't mean you're only limited to exercising three to five times a week. There are many ways to raise your activity levels without increasing your exercise. Some examples include:
- Bringing in groceries from the car: Instead of bringing in several groceries at work, bring in one at a time. Set each bag on the floor by bending with your legs, not your back.
- Stop taking the elevator or escalator: Use the stairs instead to get a quick minute of cardiovascular exercise.
- If you're cleaning a room on the second storey of your house, empty the rubbish in a bin on the first floor. The extra stair climbing is great for your legs.
Taking the longer route to get chores finished is great for short bursts of exercise, but shouldn't be the only form of exercise. Exercising for a minimum of 30 minutes three to five days a week is still the best way to get into great shape.
