Fitness Tip | LOWER BACK PAIN EXERCISE
If you suffer from lower back pain that isn’t caused by an injury, you don't need to rule out aerobic exercise. Many exercise routines can be modified to reduce stress on your lower back, making it easier to get in your 30 minutes without causing additional back pain.
Exercise machines, such as a sit-down elliptical trainer, allow the back to rest evenly against a flat surface as you work all of the leg muscles. There's also the added bonus of increasing your heart rate, improving the heart's ability to pump more blood.
For an alternative aerobic workout, consider taking a dip in the pool. The water reduces the strain on all of the ligaments, making it easier to move without pain. Full water immersion can also be very therapeutic and relaxing.
However, if water's not your ideal form of exercise, consider modified Pilates. Lying against the Pilates machine provides additional lower back support, and the slow and deliberate exercises won't cause you to yell out in pain.
