Fitness Tip | FIGHT DEPRESSION WITH EXERCISE
Exercise has plenty of physical benefits, but did you know it also fights depression?
Although it's not a cure, physical exercise is shown to release brain chemicals called endorphins, which improves a person's mood. Exercise also allows people to relieve any pent up feelings caused by depression, such as sadness, frustration or anger.
You don't need to run a marathon to reap these positive benefits, though. Fifteen minutes of light, aerobic exercise is enough to reduce some symptoms of depression. To get the full benefits, aim for thirty minutes or more.
Practising yoga, taking a brisk walk or engaging in a favourite sport are all effective ways to allow the brain's endorphins to release naturally, giving you a “happy” high that lasts for hours.
