Fitness Tip | EXERCISE TO MUSIC
Music is a great motivator, and it's no coincidence that all aerobic exercise programmes feature some background beats.
Research shows that it keeps people motivated and focused, and there's also evidence that music speeds up the heart rate, motivating us to work harder.
But listening to Celine Dion perhaps isn't the most appropriate music choice to keep you motivated. The beat of the music also influences how hard we work out - a long ballad may slow us down instead, making it harder for us to exercise efficiently.
So, to get your heart pumping and your body moving, choose songs faster than 118 beats per minute, which mimics your heart rate. It doesn't matter which genre you listen to - if power metal really pumps you up, then go for that!
