Fitness Tip | CHOOSE YOUR RIGHT RUNNING SURFACE
Leg and foot injuries are common if you're a regular runner, but they can also be avoidable. During a run, there are numerous obstacles which can threaten to throw you off balance, and therefore increasing the risk from stress or bone fractures.
One of the biggest factors in sustaining a leg or foot injury is the terra firma. A smooth, even surface provides the perfect platform for your legs to make safe and confident strides, but uneven surfaces eliminate this support. If you're not careful, your feet may land awkwardly on the surface, causing a painful fracture.
Therefore, to avoid injury, try to run on surfaces that are both smooth and firm such as pavements, racing tracks or flat trails. If possible, try to avoid rocky or gravel trails, along with mushy or grassy trails to further reduce your risk of injury.
