Fitness Tip | BEWARE OF BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
Like “miracle” dieting products, bodybuilding supplements are notorious for making exaggerated and sometimes factually inaccurate claims, such as promising to increase muscle mass and to quicken recovery time.
Yet these supplements can often be unsafe. For example, Guarana - a popular energy aid - may trigger seizures and caffeine jitters, which may adversely affect the heart.
In one study, Chromium Picolinate was shown to cause DNA damage, which may have caused the death of a woman in 2004.
However, according to the Mayo Clinic, one of the most popular supplements of all may contain the most significant side effects. Creatine, which is now widely available to the general public in places such as supermarkets, may trigger asthma-like symptoms, gastrointestinal problems and impaired liver function.
Therefore if your aim is to bulk up, the safest and most effective solution is to combine good diet with an appropriate exercise routine - not a bodybuilding supplement.
Consuming healthy, low-fat foods rich in protein, calcium and vitamin C, coupled with a structured weightlifting program is still, and will always be, the best method for building muscle and cutting fat. It’s also a lot cheaper too!
