Diet Tip | SUGAR UP WITH FRUIT
Some people rely on low calorie snacks, diabetic sweets or old fashioned willpower to put a lid on their sugar cravings. But snacking on a small apple, banana or orange may also satiate your need for sugar.
Unlike processed foods, which cause blood glucose to spike rapidly, fruit sugars are broken down slowly in the body, stabilizing blood glucose. Fruits are also abundant in antioxidant-rich vitamins, including vitamin A, C, and E. This reduces free radical formation, which physicians theorize plays a factor in a person's heart disease and stroke risk.
Better yet, fruit often contains fewer calories than sugar-free snacks, reducing the caloric overload on your waistline.
