Diet Tip | SOUP UP FOR DINNER
The power of soup on a cold wintry morning is unparalleled. Unlike a cold sandwich or a salad, soup is satisfying, warming and keeps your stomach full for hours.
Recent research also shows it helps prevent people from overeating at the dinner table.
According to the research, participants who consumed a bowl of hot, steaming chicken and wild rice soup consumed 100 fewer calories when they ate a regular meal. Researchers believe the extra liquid fills up the stomach, reducing their ability to eat more during dinner.
But beware as not all soup is the same. Creamy soups, such as clam chowder, should be avoided as it contains plenty of "bad" fat and calories, adding to your waistline instead of slimming it down. Stick with broth-based soups filled with vegetables instead, which are more nutrient dense than other popular soup additives, such as thick cubes of beef or potatoes.
