Recovering alcoholics don't keep alcoholic beverages in their homes whilst trying to kick the habit. People who want to give up smoking don't keep cigarettes inhouse either - it only leads to temptation, making it harder to quit.
The same rule applies to dieters addicted to sugar. If there aren't any sugary snacks in the house, it means that you have to make a specific trip out in order to get your daily shot of sugar, which most people won't do.
If you haven't already, do a complete kitchen makeover - throw away all of the sugary snacks and replace them with naturally sweet fruits, such as apples or grapes. After all, you can't give into temptation if the temptation's not there.
