Diet Tip | GO VEGGIE
Unlike real meat, which needs to be thawed to make it workable, meat substitutes have amazing versatility and can be moulded into nutritionally-dense veggie burgers, faux-meat chunks for kebabs or curry, or mixed into low-fat stir fries. These alternatives also absorb the flavour of sauces and spices easily without the need to marinade.
In addition, some meat substitutes (such as textured vegetable protein) also contain more protein without the extra fat or calories, potentially making them a diet-friendly substitute.
However, please beware:- most meat substitutes contain soy, which is a common allergen. Should your lips, mouth or throat start to tingle or swell, it may be a sign you have a soy allergy. Tip: Seitan or quorn do not contain any soy.
