Learn about the Glycaemic Index (GI), and how you can use it to select the right food choices.
For example, when you are about to take part in vigorous activity such as sport or exercise, high GI foods will provide a quick source of energy to help you play or workout to your maximum.
On the other hand, foods lowdown on the GI index are great for losing and controlling weight as they make you feel fuller for longer, which in turn reduces the temptation to overeat.
- Examples of high GI foods:- porridge, skimmed milk, apples, brown rice, fish, eggs, nuts
- Examples of low GI foods:- corn flakes, dates, white bread, french fries, watermelon, swede
