Diet Tip | CHOOSE YOUR JAPENESE FOOD WISELY
The Japanese are known for their light and healthy dishes, which includes sushi, miso soup and sunomono. But Japan also has its’ fair share of calorie laden and unhealthy dishes - the most famous being tempura, or deep-fried chicken and vegetables.
To limit your fat and calorie intake, try to avoid any "tempura" or "agemono" dishes, which indicate they have been deep fried. Stick with sushi or sashimi featuring tuna or salmon, which contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Broth-based soups, such as miso soup, are also great pre-meal appetite suppressants.
But if you're still unsure of what an entrée contains, don't be afraid to ask the waiter who will be able to confirm if the dish is fried, lightly grilled or raw.
